ABSTRACT

Objective:To construct a "Five-in-one" blended teaching model in the course of fundamental nursing with ideological and political education as the core, integrated with online and offline, and complemented with theory and experiment, and to explore its application effect. Methods:Eight classes of nursing undergraduates in Batch 2019 were selected through convenience sampling method, and through random cluster sampling, Class 5 to 8 were divided into control group and Class 1 to 4 were divided into experimental group. The control group used the traditional teaching method, the experimental group used the "Five-in-one" mixed teaching model. After the course, the teaching effect was evaluated by the professional commitment scale, the recessive truancy scale for college students, the self-regulated learning ability scale and the examination results. SPSS 23.0 software was used for t test. Results:After teaching, the scores of professional commitment, self-adjustment in recessive truancy, autonomous learning ability and examination results of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group [(91.30±10.38) vs. (87.31±16.40), (23.30±4.50) vs. (21.23±4.51), (82.31±10.06) vs. (79.42±9.79), (72.31±10.13) vs. (70.14±9.67) and (87.93±4.60) vs. (86.50±4.67), respectively]. The scores of academic cognition, learning habit, classroom cognition and learning environment in recessive truancy of the experimental group were lower than those in control group, with statistical significance. Conclusion:The application of "Five-in-one" blended teaching model in the course of fundamental nursing can reduce students' recessive truancy and improve their professional commitment, autonomous learning ability and academic achievement.

ABSTRACT

The study was designed to identify the attitude of nursing students to fundamental nursing practice through Q-methodology. A Q sample was developed through a review of the literature and interviews. Forty statements made up the finalized Q-sample. The P sample consisted of 25 nursing students in S College. Q statements were written on separate cards and were given to the 25 subjects to sort according to degree of agreement or disagreement. The Q-sort by each subject was coded and analyzed with QUANL PC Program. The analysis discovered three major attitudes, namely "type 1: passive demand", "type 2: active self-confidence", "type 3: practical application". The correlation was .213 between type 1 and 2, .409 between type 1 and 3, .379 between t ype 2 and 3. The results revealed three different types of fundamental nursing practice attitude; 1) Passive demand type: they were not satisfied with fundamental nursing practice time, the number of persons, practice machines. They presented anxiety and worry through fundamental nursing practice. Therefore, they will presenta passive attitude of clinical practice experience. 2) Active self-confidence type: they experienced pride as a nursing student and fascination as a nurse was an acquired recognition. 3) Practical application type: they practiced that fundamental nursing skill was applied their family and oneself. Therefore they had tension through initial fundamental nursing practice but they gained self-confidence and interest through practical study. In conclusion, the researchers suggest that the education program would be more effective if it was planned considering to each types of attitude of nursing students for fundamental nursing practice.

ABSTRACT

Many studies have reported that a lot of nursing colleges do not have good facilities for the nursing practice in hospitals, so many students do not have the good ability which is needed to be a competent nurse. The purpose of this study was to develop a program in which students could improve their ability in fundamental nursing skills before the graduation. This study was primarily designed to identify items of the fundamental nursing practice in which nursing college students have perceived deficiencies. According to previous studies, a total 75 items were presented. In identifying them, a modified Porter format was used. The questionnaire contained three sections. A. How well do you think you can/could perform the item when you graduate/graduated the college? B. How well do you think you should perform/should be able to perform the item when you graduate/graduated the college? C. How important do you think the item is? For each of the 75 items, the respondents were instructed to answer the above three questions, by circling a number on a rating scale extending from 1 to 5, where low numbers represented a low degree of performance or minimum amount, and high numbers represented a high degree of performance of maximum amount. The perceived degree of deficiency in performance on each questionnaire item was obtained by subtracting the answer to Part A of an item from that to of Part B. The larger difference means a larger perceived degree of deficiency in performance. This method of measuring the perceived degree of deficiency in performance is an indirect measure derived from two direct answers by the respondent for each item. From this result Part C of each item was used to rank the items, and the items were prioritized. The items which had the highest priority were IV injection, simple catheterization, indwelling catheterization, CPR, and nurse recording. By this method, through these results from a nursing college, and the items which will be used first in developing the supplementation program for nursing college students can be identified.
